LMIAS / WORK PERMITS

Work Permit & LMIA

In Canada, numerous opportunities exist for individuals who are qualified and intent on working in various eligible categories within the economy. Generally, a Temporary Foreign Worker must obtain a permit from the government, though there are some exceptions. The likelihood of securing a permit depends on the country’s economic and social conditions, as well as the current level of unemployment. Golden Bridge Immigration can assist both employers seeking to hire Temporary Foreign Workers and employees aiming to obtain a work permit in Canada.

Closed Work Permit

A closed work permit is a type of work authorization in Canada that restricts the holder to working for a specific employer, in a particular job, and often in a designated location. This type of permit is typically tied to an employment offer from a Canadian company, and it outlines the terms and conditions under which the foreign worker is permitted to work in Canada.

Open Work Permit

An open work permit allows employees to work for any Canadian company and in any National Occupational Classification (NOC) code within a specified time frame. Individuals may qualify for an open work permit under various conditions, including: International students who have graduated from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and are eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program Students facing financial hardship Individuals with a pending Permanent Residency (PR) application in Canada Dependent family members of someone who has applied for PR Spouses or common-law partners of Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs) or international students Spouses or common-law partners of applicants under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), among other criteria.

LMIA

Before applying for a closed work permit, the employer may need to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), which is a document that demonstrates there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job and that no Canadian worker is available to do so. Once the LMIA is approved, the foreign worker can apply for a closed work permit, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria. Golden Bridge Immigration can assist with the process of obtaining a closed work permit, helping both employers and employees navigate the application process smoothly.
